Not Just For Drinking – How Old Jameson Bottles are Finding New Life Through Repurposing

Everyone is into recycling in some form these days. We do our best to toss our garbage into appropriate bins and do our part to repurpose that which can be given new life. That’s why we feel very good about people who give a second life to Jameson bottles. There’s a trend these days in pubs and homes to put those iconic green bottles to use in places other than the shelf behind the bar.

Jameson is the premiere name in Irish whiskey. Doing a Car Bomb? Jameson is the go-to for the shot. It’s raised as a parting glass at the end of the evening and at wakes. It’s also been known to inspire a song or two.

That’s why it’s pleasing to see those green bottles of mirth transformed into something new. We’re not just talking lamps, either. Try snack bowls, containers, and chandeliers. What’s so special about a Jameson bottle? Certainly, there are other green bottles out there that could be used in the same way. Jameson, though, it not just a brand. It’s an identity. Mention Irish whiskey, and Jameson will be the first maker that pops into most people’s minds. It has a legacy, which is why people are drawn to it as a standard whiskey. It becomes an integral part of memories made in pubs and on camping trips. It is the go-to for shots of celebration and mourning. It’s no wonder that people are endeared to the green glass and parchment-like label. They love it, so why not decorate with it?

Apparently, the folks at Looking Sharp Cactus are into repurposing Jameson bottles, because that’s where we found our first two items.

Serving Bowl / Planter / Keys / Change Holder

$17.50 at Looking Sharp Cactus

This nifty little idea has a ton of potential uses. We like the planter idea best, but you can use it any way you want. It’s big enough to hold a couple sets of keys by the door or catch your spare change at the end of the day. If you’re using it for chips or dip, the neck becomes a dandy little serving handle.

Glasses / Tumblers

$11.95 each at Looking Sharp Cactus

Who doesn’t want these glasses? They’re made from the bottom portion of a Jameson bottle and are pretty swanky. The green colored glass is iconic, which takes a lot of the sting out of the price point. We suggest buying one glass per paycheck until you have a set of four.

Next, we travel to Etsy, in the land of the handy people.

Rings for Her and Him

$36.00 by Glassoholics on Etsy

To paraphrase Beyonce, if you like Jameson, make a ring out of it. Glassoholics has line of jewelry made from melted Jameson bottles. This is a uniqe piece of jewelry that is sure to strike up conversations, since we all know that green glass is like a beacon in the night.

$325.51 by Eire Eco Rings on Etsy

Okay, so this one is a little more strenuous on the pocketbook, but just LOOK AT IT! That’s Jameson barrel wood in there, along with some sterling silver that used to be a limited edition silver coin in Ireland. The inside has an engraving of Ha’ penny bridge in Dublin. What more could you ask for in a ring?

Lamps, Lamps, Lamps!

Welcome to having almost too many choices when it comes to light fixtures! We picked some of our favorites, but be sure to let your fingers do the walking to find even more possibilities!

$85.50 Jameson Wall Lamp by Vintage Barrel Crafts on Etsy

This is a simple design, but it would look good anywhere you might hang it. Think on the porch, patio, or even on the boat (if you have one). The bottom of the bottle is cut off to let light shine downward. It’s nice that the bulb sits behind the label to prevent glare.

$44.95 Jameson LED Bottle Lamp by FJ Flemming on ECrater

We cannot tell a lie – this may be the favorite lamp in this list because it has glowy glowy parts and stuff. And LED – we like the low power consumption / low heat produced aspect. Some of these lamps that use incandescents can get pretty hot, but not this lamp. The only thing hot about it is its look!

$69.98 Jameson “All Lit Up” Lamp with Shade by The Bottle Upcycler

For those looking for more classic lines of lighting comes “All Lit Up” by the Bottle Upcycler. Aside from the fact that this site specializes in repurposing bottles, we like the classic look of this lamp. It has an elegance to it that deserves a den with mahogany furniture and leather easy chairs. The shade is included (a bonus these days!).

We could go on a long time featuring more products, but there are just too many. Want to see more? Try a Google search on “Jameson bottles repurposed”. You’ll go down the rabbit hole and have a hard time deciding where to spend your money. Remember, too – repurposing isn’t just limited to Jameson. Look up your favorite beverage to see what some really fine artisans are doing these days. There is nothing like owning something that is hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind. You may even find yourself handing it down to the next generation who has fallen in love with it, too!
